An author
practice.

Balzar Arquitectos was founded in Valencia in 2018. The practice brings together three architects across two generations: José María García Zarco, with over thirty years in the profession, and Txema García Ballester and Laura Moreno Albuixech, who lead the studio's current work. We are twenty people. We work internationally. We operate as an author practice — a studio where a coherent architectural intelligence runs from the initial concept to the last construction detail.

ACTIVE MARKETS

We define ourselves as an author practice — a studio where the architectural criterion is not distributed across a process but concentrated in a consistent design intelligence that runs from the initial concept to the construction detail. Our work is grounded in a set of formal convictions: that architecture earns its presence through proportion and weight, not through formal novelty; that material honesty is not a stylistic choice but an ethical one; that the most enduring spaces are those that resist the image in favour of the experience.

These convictions have led us to a body of work that spans private residences, commercial interiors, hospitality and cultural buildings across eight international markets. The scale changes. The discipline does not. We are based in Valencia, Spain. We work with clients who understand that architecture is a long process and that its value is not measured at the moment of completion.

Form as construction.

Every formal decision is a constructive decision. We do not design forms and then find ways to build them. We design from the logic of materials, structure and craft, so that the way something is made is inseparable from what it is. This is not a methodology. It is an ethics.

Proportion and measure.

The fundamental problems of architecture — space, proportion, light, material — are not solved through novelty. They are solved through precision. A wall at the right thickness, a window at the right height, a floor that meets the ground in the right way. These decisions determine whether a building feels accidental or inevitable.

Light before surface.

Before we specify stone, wood or steel, we design the light. The quality of natural light — its direction, its diffusion, its behaviour across the day — determines the character of a space more than any finish. We design apertures before we design walls.

Timelessness as discipline.

We are not interested in the contemporary as a stylistic category. We are interested in the permanent. The architecture we admire has not dated because it was never of its moment — it was made from a formal logic that transcends it. Restraint is not an aesthetic choice. It is the result of removing everything that does not belong.
